BMW considering luxury microcar for sale in India

It's been sporadically reported over the past few months that BMW is considering offering a new microcar to battle it out with the smarts and Toyota iQs of the world. An Isetta revival seems plausible, but in markets outside of Europe and the U.S., the determining factor for consumers is price.

BMW might be looking to India to launch its newest breed of mini mobility, something that would be similar in size to the recently released Tata Nano, but come equipped with more of the luxuries normally associated with the German marque.

The PTI News agency originally reported on BMW's initial exploration into this new vehicle, and our friends over at World Car Fans contacted BMW for more information. According to BMW's spokesperson, there are no plans to compete with the Nano, but the automaker is exploring "the future [of] mobility," a wonderfully canned answer from a PR department if we ever heard one.

Уже сейчас доступна для скачивания бета-версия Internet Explorer 8. В новом браузере появилась интерграция с социальной сетью Facebook (получать сообщения можно будет с помощью панели инструментов) и аукционом eBay.

Пользователей порадует интергация с картографическим сервисом Live Maps - теперь можно выделить адрес прямо на странице, нажать правую кнопку мыши и сразу увидеть карту в небольшом всплывающем окне. Очень удобно. Также, в IE8 внедрен модуль популярного сервиса обмена ссылками Me.dium.

Новая версия IE8 соответствует всем веб-стандартам, улучшена способность работать с AJAX веб-страницами. Появились новые инструменты для разработчиков - поиск ошибок в HTML, таблицах стилей, также улучшена поддержка пространства имен в XML.

Tonight in Geneva we saw the whole thing. Carlos Ghosn himself introduced the new FX at a club-like venue just down the road from the Palexpo. Accompanied by some choreographed theatrics, the new FX dropped from the ceiling and landed front and center ahead of its EX37 and G37 siblings, which will join it in the new Infiniti dealerships starting up in Europe this year.The redesigned 2009 FX will come in three different flavors, topping out with the FX50 we saw here. As the name tells us, it features a new 5.0L V8, said to be good for 390HP and more than 500nM of torque. Fairly stout numbers compared to the outgoing 4.5. The 2009 FX should start appearing at North American Infiniti dealers by June. You can read about the rest of the changes to this fairly highly anticipated CUV in the press release after the jump, but we think the photos in the gallery will tell more of the story. Personally we'd be remiss if we didn't note that although most of the changes sound great, the second-gen FX doesn't improve on the previous generation in the styling department.

Goes On Sale in North America in June –

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 4, 2008) – Infiniti today revealed the all-new 2009 Infiniti FX performance luxury crossover SUV in conjunction with the Geneva Motor Show. The second-generation FX, with its fusion of sports car and SUV design, will be offered in three models, including a new 5.0-liter V8-equipped Infiniti FX50. The 2009 FX is scheduled to go on sale at Infiniti dealers in the United States and Canada in June 2008.

The new FX's world debut in Geneva was hosted by Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. President and CEO Carlos Ghosn, who also announced details of Infiniti's plans to enter the Western European market in the last quarter of 2008.

About the 2009 Infiniti FX
The all-new second-generation Infiniti FX is designed to offer exceptional levels of power, refinement, safety and driving exhilaration. Created as a fusion of sports car and SUV, with breathtaking styling, sports car-like proportions and an advanced sports sedan platform, the new FX is a showcase of Infiniti's design and technology leadership.

Details are still pretty hard to come by but PickupTruck.Com has been learning as much as possible about plans for Mercedes Benz to sell a full size luxury pickup in the United States by 2003.

The Mercedes truck is rumored to be an extended cab pickup with four doors - similar in size and functionality to the current Toyota Tundra. Distinctive fender flares, reminiscent of the Dodge Power Wagon concept shown in Detroit last year, suggest that DaimlerChrysler may build both the Power Wagon and Mercedes full size off a common platform to save on development costs - this would be a production first (besides the Chrysler Java concept built off the Mercedes A-Class chassis) since the two companies merged in 1998. The move would make sense because of Dodge's expertise in trucks and the ability of Mercedes to cater to the rapidly growing upscale truck niche. Mercedes would also be able to take advantage of Lincoln's efforts to open up this market with its Blackwood pickup - scheduled to go on sale in late 2000.

No word yet on the powerplant but don't be surprised to find Mercedes's 5.5L V-8 which produces 342hp and 376ft-lb of torque. This engine has proven itself to be quite competent in the M-Class SUV.

The price for a full size Mercedes pickup would probably begin around $40,000 - less than the cost of a Blackwood because there would possibly be only two full size doors instead of the four found on the Lincoln. The Mercedes truck would most likely be produced at the same plant in Alabama where the M-Class SUV is built.
